He "surprised" me with a trip to Lisbon. It was not really a surprise, because he forgot and left his email open while we were both looking at his iPad, I pretended I did not see anything. The hotel reservation was there for me to read, could not look away. Anyway this is a photo of us at the Castle St. George high above the city. It was a fun trip with lots of good food, rest and relaxation.

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPad

A New Year

Once again the New Year has arrived and all the resolutions have come and gone along with all the celebrations, visits from family and time off from work. Life has been busy with work and family with little time for stamping and scrapbooking. Somehow I did find time to make a project today that was initially created by Keisha Campbell. Her blog is called A Bit East. She is an awesome cardmaker, scrapbooker, home decorator, and photographer. I love her style and I borrowed a little(really a lot) when I created my version. I have a cousin, who is fighting breast cancer, so far she is winning her battle. She has shown incredible courage and grace throughout her illness. I decided to make this project for her to let her know I am thinking of her and wishing her continued strength on her journey to defeat cancer.

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPad

Uploading photos from iPad

Test post

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPad

I have been bitten by the COUPON CRAZE!!

I have been wanting to take a coupon class offered by Southern Savers for awhile and I am finally registered to go next week. I am too excited about learning how to save money on groceries. Clipped coupons last night, I saved the Sunday papers from the last 2 weeks and coupons in hand I went to Publix to buy what I had coupons for, just a few things, not a large order at all, My total before buy one get one and coupons was 20.34 and I paid 5.19. It was an awesome feeling. I am not trying to get a thousand dollars worth of stuff for $8, like the women on the shows, I just want to save 10 to 20 a week and it looks like I can be well on the way.

I know I will learn more tips and tricks next week but wanted to give it a try. I also went to CVS this morning, used coupons and got extracare bucks, more awesomeness. I bought Colgate toothpaste which was on sale for 2.79, bought 2 tubes, had a dollar off coupon for each one, then got 4.00 dollars in extra bucks,then another for 5 off 10, and yet another for 3 off 15. I also purchased Bliss chocolates for 5.99 and got extrabucks for 5.99. So for the 9.78 I spent I received 18.00 in extrabucks. Excited.

Black, Cream and Kraft with a touch of Red

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wCVV8o6-8Bg/TfNoe-x1DnI/AAAAAAAAAOo/VykINsMi-TI/s200/Enjoy%2B046.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5616948041718500978" />
I made some cards with my current favorite color combination. Of course the set that I wanted was gone and therefore my attitude was a little defeated. However they did have the Marth Stewart Hydrangea punch I wanted. I saw it used in Keisha Campbell's AWESOME blog, a bit east-coast. She is so talented. Love her stuff. Anyway decided to go home without any Tim Holtz stuff, on the way to pay for my punch I found the dollar bin. Low and behold Studio G had some new stamps. I ws so excited, the verses really put me in the mind of Ali Edwards so digging through I found many new stamps I had to have..can you say I need help...so needless to say this is what I left with and the best part of all they were 49 cents each. So happy........

Black, Kraft, and Pink

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tj1MZIy-IK0/TeFROyyBCII/AAAAAAAAAOE/KXGbtlGGMwk/s200/Enjoy%2B003.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5611855925271922818" />
I tried a different color combo and this is what I came up with. There are swaps each month and one of the members (Helen) hosted a tag swap. The theme of the swap was to use Tim Holtz distress techniques to make your tags. I distressed with edges with the Making Memories distress tool and I layered my inks. I then overstamped with a grid stamp by Hero Arts and I used the new die cut of the Umbrella Man. I had some flowers that were in the grab bags I got from Donna Downey Studios, thought they added a nice touch. The was the first project I have done in a quite a while that I did not overanalyze. I just let my creative spirit flow, it has been absent for such a long time. Stamps are by Hero Arts and Amuse rubber stamps. Flower by Prima, twine by Paper Trey ink, butterflies by Martha Stewart and ink used was Memento Cooca Brown. Rhinestones are from Hobby Lobby.

Photos from Copic Adventure

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CY66LOGOTdk/Tb25Z-qpenI/AAAAAAAAANE/7QtnamkAuNg/s200/063.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5601837367488510578" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QMN-U1G0Jxo/Tb25ZsW1ohI/AAAAAAAAAM8/YiHijz57aOU/s200/055.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5601837362573582866" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ta98ZeTVNqc/Tb25ZRsbs3I/AAAAAAAAAM0/GlegdCkkrF8/s200/003.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5601837355416400754" />
Gail and I met at Donna Downey Studios for our Copic Adventure, she and I got a chance to take photos with Donna. She was on her to Singapore and she indulged us by taking photos with us. We had a fun time at her shop and spent lots of money. Melissa, who is Donna's assistant was very helpful and nice, she was in the Copic class also. We all had lunch together at my favorite place, Panera Bread, (the bread part says it all). We met another student, Cindy, who gave us the lowdown on the stores in the area. Have to explore next time,weather was threatening so I went back to Greenville instead of hanging around to do more shopping. Also a stamping pal Kim from Greenville was in attendance as well. WE all had a great time together.

Some of my Donna Downey Loot

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2_VOMOHEBXs/Tb223IwqJVI/AAAAAAAAAMs/kXi4r-qPRHw/s200/Donna%2BDowney%2Bstudios%2B002.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5601834569879397714" />
These are some of the goodies I got from Donna Downey Studios. I had initially discoverd them on the internet and then saw the stamps when I went to Stampaway last year. They have wonderful religious verse sets. They also have a great design team, the card samples in the booth were beautiful. I made a card using the stamps I purchased. I used Van Dyke Brown ink but it looks green. I assume my ink has gotten old but I like the look of it. The tapestry background is by Hero Arts.

Inspired by Donna Downey

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Zafo72AeCTY/TX1bGpVnZkI/AAAAAAAAAMA/O99tb-Y1WcQ/s200/024.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5583719282743141954" />
This is a small canvas that I did inspired by Donna Downey. I used Making Memories rub-ons and Golden Paints. It was quick and easy to make. I sprayed the canvas with water and then added the paint. Golden paints are joy to work with and cover well. After spraying the canvas I added the paint and blotted it to get the coverage I wanted. I used my heat gun to speed the drying. Once it was dry I added the rub-ons and then added a piece of patterned paper along the bottom of the canvas, added a sticker from 7 Gypsies and then stamped the flowers with Titanium white Golden paint. I also edged the canvas with Walnut Stain distress ink. My friend Gail was the recipient of the canvas. I always promise her I am going to send her items in the mail and it takes me forever to send it, so I had to make it up to her. It is a sunny day and I am doing what I do best,looking at it from inside. Never been an outdoor girl. Love to be indoors with a book, or now with my IPAD. Love the ability to instantly down load books. Now I need to get the IPAD and get on my elliptical and do some exercise....

I made some fall cards using my favorite Kraft cardstock and some browns and greens. Had not been stamping in awhile and had trouble getting started. I did use my twinkling H20's, had not used them is a very long time. I do like them, they are quite easy to use and add a little shimmer to the stamped image. I also made a card for my swap group and I still need to photograph that one. Will post later. Anyway I used an old verse from Personal Stamp Exchange about autumn and the tree is from Inkadinkadoo, purchased at Michael's. Also used the large friends text from Hero Arts to overstamp the tree. Used a Cuttlebug embossing folder to add texture and more dimension.

Stampaway 2010

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__YGRWUcLoSg/THFMgzUhi4I/AAAAAAAAAJY/mZeJ3nD0p1c/s200/039.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5508267945666644866" />
I had the pleasure to attend Stampaway in Cincinnati this year. Stampaway is a one day rubberstamp convention, with a preview night on Friday night. The preview party is an event within itself. Only 500 tickets are sold and you get a chance to shop before everyone else does. It is worth 38 dollar price tag to be able to shop without the major crowd that comes on Saturday. The highlight of preview night was meeting Tim Holtz, Jennifer Maguire and Shari Carroll. Stampers Anonymous and Hero Arts are my favorite companies and it was such a pleasure to meet my stamping idols. Jennifer and Shari were super nice and so patient while my buddy Gail took pictures. Gail took classes by Tim and Joanie of Artful Illusions. So between classes I was able to sneak in and get a picture with Tim. He also was very gracious while working hard to get ready for the upcoming class.

More photos

<img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; The store had recently hosted Tim Holtz and they had a wonderful photo album with the event, the store was also filled with ALL of his Sizzix dies and embossing folders and of course stamps. I was like a kid in a candy store. My Mom (who does not understand) was ready to leave after a few minutes, wanted to banish her to the car but it was too hot outside to leave her out there for long(just kidding) anyway she endured for awhile and allowed my aunt and I to look around. The owner, Sharon was really nice, showed me around the store and told me all about the Tim Holtz event. She said when they announced that Tim was coming and classes were going on sale, they had women camped out in front of the store the night before, hoping to be first in line toreserves their space. Personally my husband would never allow this(he doesn't understand either) but I can truly understand the desire to be first in line to get a ticket to a Tim Holtz class. I am attending Stampaway in Cincinnati in a couple of weeks and I missed out on the opportunity to take his classes. My friend Gail did get a space so I will get to ooh and aah over her creations.

Not so plain anymore...

Update the same card with a few changes. I also used a splatter stamp by Stampin Up. The verse is by Stampabilities-purchased at Hobby Lobby. I really like the font arrangement and I of course since I am verse junkie I had to have it(purchased on sale). I inked the stamp and then spritzed it with water, stamped the ink onto watercolor paper. Next I edged the paper with the ink pad, used a water brush to soften the edge. I then used the splatter stamp over the face of the card. Next I used the water brush to soften some the flowers. This card could stand alone or be placed on a piece of cardstock.

Cards for Soldiers

These are 2 cards I made for an internet friend whose son was returning home. I cut letters from my Cricut and used an old book page for the background. I continued my use of paper pleating. I think I am addicted. I really like the dimension and texture it adds to my cards. It is also making use of something I already have and not feeding my desire to acquire more stuff. Really need to work on that. Flower by Prima, heart punch by EK Success and stamp by Hero Arts.

Color Layering

I used Hero Arts stamps and Ranger Inks to make this card. Someone of the two people who live in our house, left the freezer door open and by the time we discovered it everything had thawed. My dear husband had fish from a fishing trip he had taken earlier in the spring stored inside and it is not pleasant when fish juice is on your concrete basement floor. We keep the freezer in our mechanical room so if we don't need anything from it, we hardly ever go in that room. I got a bottle of the liquid Lysol concentrate and got on my hands and knees(this girl is a stranger to this activity) and scrubbed the floor. Hubby had sprayed bleach but my bloodhound nose still detected the fishy smell and I had to get rid of it. So far the odor seems to be diminished. Wish me luck....

On a lighter note, just received my ticket to Stampaway in August. Planning to attend for the first time a few years. The classes I wanted were sold out but I did get a ticket to the preview party. I along with 500 others have PAID for the privilege to shop on Friday night before the actual convention starts on Saturday. Stampaway is usually a great convention so I am really looking forward to going.

Wow it has been a long time since I posted cards.

Updating my blog seems to take a back seat to everything. I have been very lazy about updating. I really need to do better. Need to practice to update my computer skills, need to make more cards for posting, need a few more hours in each day.......what a wish list-where's a genie when you need one. I have card to share with you. I made a Valentine's Day card that I plan to use for a class but I like the card and decided to share. I used the Letterpress card stock that I bought to go with my Letterpress by Quickutz. I stamped the heart(Stampington and Company) with Worn Lipstick by Ranger and I used my waterbrush to soften the lines and then I outlined the heart with a white gel pen. I added some rhinestones(my fave) and used a speckle stamp from Stampin Up to go around the card. I then did the same around the card base. Stamped HVD(Hero Arts) in Memento black. Thought about stamping in the same red-may make another one with red ink. Thought the black made a nice contrast. I went to the Winston-Salem stamp convention last weekend and was fascincated with the techniques demonstrated at the Stampers Anonymous booth. I took the headshot myself with my Iphone and THOUGHT I liked it. I will leave it up for a while until I change my mind again. I will have to get my photographer buddy to take a head shot of me in the very near future.

Have had a very busy week at work, lots of sick people and lots of maintenance meds handed out. Have not stamped much, but I did make it into my room to rearrange some of my stuff. Completed a few tasks , such as consolidating all of my inks into drawers and finding a home for my Stickles and finally discovering I had lots of colors of liquid pearls, so now I don't need to buy any. Hubby is grateful for that one. I scanned some cards into Paperport for later uploading and most importantly looked at the new Stampin Up catalog. Saw a lot of new things I would like to purchase but do I need another stamp?? Of course I do!! I repeat, I am hopelessly addicted.

I found some border stamp sets at Wally-world in the craft section, new release by Stampology. Very good price, $4.00, had to have them all. Would you say I need a 12 step program????

Upcoming Events

I would like to announce a new weekly happening at Funkie Munkie Scraps. I will be doing a weekly make and take on Wednesdays. I will be using supplies that are available at FMS. All you need to do is bring your own adhesive and scissors. This will start on 7/15. I am excited about doing this because I have not been stamping lately and this will get me going again. I feel the need to be creative. Along with the weekly make and take I will also be doing a couple of classes this month. Look for a class featuring a Hero Arts stamp set and a 10 cards for 10 dollars coming very soon. Due to the amount of prep time, I do require a minimum of 5 people for the 10 for 10 and a minimum for 4 for the Hero Arts classes.

I hope everyone had a wonderful July 4th. I know we did. We celebrated with friends and of course ate delicious barbecue.

Hero Arts Card Class June 7, 2009

Back in the Blogosphere!!!! I even used COPIC MARKERS. I am a novice at these markers but this is not stopping me from collecting them. Stephanie just restocked them today (5/8/09) if you NEED additional colors. Anyway, I made a standard A2 card put a white layer in an embossing folder, ran it through the Cuttlebug, stamped green layer using Meadow ink by Ranger. Used a lighter green paper stamped it with flower, colored with copic marker and added stickles. Easy peasy. I like making cards that are simple and elegant. I love flowers, stickles, rhinestones and ribbon and these are elements usually found on my cards.

Venice scrapbook layout.

This is a layout that I CASE'd from Bazzill papers. What did we do without it.

If you were not at Funkie Munkie for National Scrapbook Day activities you missed a great time. Stephanie (owner) and Lisa M. (store manager/sister -in-law) and her sister Kim did a wonderful job hosting a fantastic weekend. Lots of fun was had by all, lots of prizes given away, and lots of purchases were made(prices were hard to pass up). I met lots of new people and saw some old friends that I had not seen in awhile. Kim was the official photographer and you can see all of the photos on the Funkie Munkie Scraps blog. Lisa was on prize patrol duty and limped happily along for most of the day (she unfortunately has a broken foot). Myself with other members of the design team did make and takes all day. All in all it was an awesome day.

Over the course of the NSD activities, Stephanie displayed a talent I did not know she had. She has an awesome memory. I observed her calling so many people by name. I asked her about this skill and she stated she learned it from her Father. I think this is such an important attribute. People love to be remembered. You can always expect great service when you visit Funkie Munkie Scraps. Stephanie and Lisa work really hard to earn and keep your business.

My first post.

This is my first attempt at a blog post. I must say that I am computer challenged and I found the activity of setting up the blog to be a lot easier than I thought. I am new member of the Funkie Munkie Design Team and the first thing Stephanie (the owner) says I need a blog and respond by saying I have no idea how to set up a blog. She then pointed me in the direction of Blogspot. I enjoy reading others blogs, seeing the wealth of creativity that exists in the card making and scrapbooking worlds. Never thought I would do my own. I hope to share my artwork, ideas and general love of all things card making with those who stop by my little blogspot.

National Scrapbook Day is rapidly approaching (5/02/2009) and lots of exciting things are going on at the Funkie Munkie. Stephanie has planned at Preview Night (5/01) and I will doing a class- 10 card for 10 dollars. The cards I have designed are quick, easy, and elegant-using a minimum amount of supplies. I will also be doing card classes featuring Hero Arts beginning in mid-May, be sure to look for them.
